So I've decided that I now have a goal in mind worth going for. After the past two weekends of trail races I'm pretty sure my year of being fat is coming to a close. I really did miss the racing bug and I'm glad its bitten me again.
First off Run at the Rock was a great 14 mile trail run with a beastly hill up to the finish. It was a 2-lap course so everyone in the 14 got a nice preview of it coming up to the 7-mile finish/14-mile lap 2 start. I really felt stronger as the race wore on and began to pass a good deal of people that were fading. If I can figure out how to pull my garmin data over here I will. I did pretty well pacing myself and was only a 40-50 secs slower the 2nd lap (bathroom stop) so overall a good step in the right direction. 1:55 is an alright time and was about what i was shooting for on little training. Results and pictures are posted at the website if you end up having some free time to go look around.
Yesterday I tangled with the Bur Mil Park 10K trail run on the Owl's Roost trail. Off-n-Running put on the race and it had a relatively small turnout but was a fun and difficult 10k. It was super cold when the race started and a good portion of the trail was still frozen. The bridges were pretty treacherous and some weren't so lucky. I saw a kid drop in front of me on one of the bridges near the end. I'm not sure if the results are posted yet. Have to post those up later. I ran a 43:33 and ended up 10th overall.
Now for the exciting news. I'm going to register for Duathlon Nationals within the next couple of days. I've been out of multisport for the past few years and this just seems like an awesome opportunity to get back into it. One of the main problems with training over the past year or so has been a general lack of motivation. To assist with that I joined a couple of the slowtwitch challenges for the winter. Currently we are in the middle of the December 200-mile 200-beer challenge. Sadly I'm not on pace to nail 200 of either (probably good for the beers) but I'm out there getting miles (54 for the month so far) so better than nothing. I'll also start (and anyone else is welcome) the 100 runs in 100 days challenge on slowtwitch starting tomorrow. I think it will be a good motivator to just get off my ass. I'll try to put up something on motivation here in the next couple of days as more of a professional piece. May have to wait for exam to end for that though.
Hope everyone had an awesome weekend
keep moving
